This cast iron teapot was made in Morioka, Japan, by the family-run company Iwachu. If you're a tea lover, this beautiful and practical teapot is sure to appeal to you. Its manufacture complies with Japan's strict food-grade quality controls, so you can use it with complete confidence (see the Public Health Certificate). It is undoubtedly one of the finest teapots on the market.
A nature-inspired decor
The top of this teapot is decorated with ginkgo leaves, a symbol of hope, renewal, and longevity in Japan. Called a living fossil by Darwin, it is one of the oldest trees in the world. Incredibly, some ginkgo trees survived the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
Each Iwachu teapot is crafted using a traditional process involving over 60 steps, including:
- The inner and outer molds are made by hand.
- Liquid molten metal is poured into the mold.
- When it is cold, the mold is broken to extract the teapot.
- All edges are filed.
- The inner part is enameled.
- The exterior surface is painted.
- Once the paint is dry, the teapot is carefully wrapped.
Iwachu has been manufacturing cast iron products for over 100 years. When you buy your teapot, make sure it has the Made in Japan logo on the bottom; this is your guarantee of quality.
Regarding green tea, did you know this?
Over 1,200 years ago, the priest Saicho brought the first tea plant to Japan. Kissa Yokoji wrote in 1191: “Tea is a miraculous remedy for maintaining good health. Today, as in the past, tea is the elixir that guides anyone climbing the mountain of immortality.” Initially a beverage reserved for the nobility, during the Edo period (1603–1868), the tea ceremony and its associated elements, such as cast-iron teapots, became very popular throughout Japan. Today, green tea is an integral part of the soul of the Land of the Rising Sun; the Japanese enjoy it at all hours.
